Scientists Develop Wearable Brain-Computer Interface(BCI) That Lets You use Your Thoughts To Play Video Game

So far, the gadget is a cap that resembles a swimming cap and is equipped with electrodes that allow you to scan brain waves. The interface will also help people with disabilities feel more confident in everyday life.

The potential of BCI technology is enormous. Such interfaces will allow people to control not only computers without any physical action, but also robotic prostheses. Using machine learning models, the authors of the interface developed a so-called decoder. Based on the BCI method, the algorithm was able to be trained to perform simple steps to balance a digital panel in a simple video game. To do this, the AI ​​was trained to remember commands from one person.

The decoder was then tested on 18 subjects – people with no experience using such technologies. Over the course of five sessions, each person was able to train the gadget to control car racing. According to the authors, this is enormous progress, since it usually takes weeks or even months to train such skills.

Similar experiments with interface control by the power of thought are being conducted by Neuralink, Elon Musk’s startup, which promotes the idea of ​​​​using brain implants. At the end of March 2024, the company shared the news that the first patient with the chip could already play Mario Kart and write messages.
