GoPro Hero 6 Review


GoPro Hero 6 is successor of GoPro Hero 5 launched in last year. Hero 5 make big change in company’s Hero range cameras, because it has some features which was not present in other past cameras of company. To continue with same winning formula company launched GoPro Hero 6 with retention of good features in Hero 5 and some new features. Will this camera become successful like Hero 5 ?

Lets try to find the answer.


GoPro HERO 6 shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second and slow-motion at 1080p (240 fps).

The HERO 6 have 4K/60 video, a feature many GoPro users have waited for. It also has a 12MP camera and is waterproof to 33 feet.


Hero 6 design is pretty much similar to Hero 5 except external ‘6’ markings.
It’s fully waterproof, up to 10 meters like Hero 5.Not much changed in design, hence I am mentioning those things which are improved in Hero 6

The display quality is slightly improved in Hero 6.The responsiveness of display is improved.

The another advantage of camera is its small size. Also due to retention of design the all accessories of Hero 5 fits in Hero 6.


There are four main ways to control GoPro Hero 6: button, touchscreen, voice control, app. The Hero 6 also has some instant-editing and instant-offloading feature.The Hero 6 has GPS.

The recording resolutions and frame rate has increased in Hero 6. New Hero 6 can do 4K/60fps. Similarly, the limit was 1080p/120fps slow-motion, but you can now do a super-smooth 1080p/240fps. The electronic image stabilisation is also hugely improved.The Hero 6 can record both photos and videos in HDR.

Digital stabilization is the other big addition. But it is only available at 4K at up to 30fps, 2.7K at up to 60fps, and 1080p at up to 120fps.

The Hero 6 has new feature called auto exposure. This feature reduce time required to readjust with lightning change.

Wake-on-voice function is introduced in Hero 6.When turned off with voice the camera will go into low-power listing mode for 8 hours. So you can turn it on again by voice command.

The GoPro Hero 6 comes with a new 5GHz WiFi support that triples the transfer speed to the cloud.

The video codec changed in Hero 6.For highest frame rate footage now it uses H.265 instead of H.264.


In Hero 6 the stills is improved a lot due to custom GP1 processor. We can say the new GP1 processor is heart of this camera.Image quality is little bit improved due to GP1 processor, but as other parts are same, do not expect big notable change.

Hero 6 has HDR capabilities which automatically balances peak highlights and shadows.

Shooting using the Night Mode is improved. Now, by default, it can take exposures up to 10 seconds long, ensuring that even in the dead of night with minimal light, you can still take a considered night show photo.


Some new features related to video recording like better image quality, H.265 codec are included previously in features list.

The new GP1 processor has made huge change in Video recording capabilities.
GP1 processor bumps frame rates to deliver ultra-smooth 60fps video at 4K, and extremes low-motion at 1080p—and it also adds solid digital stabilization.


Small size with good design, reliable, great video quality and shooting options, wake-on-voice function, HDR and raw photo capture, digital stabilization, GPS


High price tag, not have big changes except GP1 processor
